Slap Savica

The Savica waterfall [ ˈsavit͡sa ] ( Slovenian : Slap Savica ) is located in Slovenia above the Bohinj valley in the Triglav National Park . The waterfall flows 38 meters over rocks at an angle of 50 degrees and then falls 51 meters down into the reservoir of the Ukanc power plant and over the dam wall down into the second reservoir of the Ukanc power plant in the Velika Savica river valley . A second waterfall falls 25 meters into the reservoir.

The Velika Savica unites with the second source river Mala Savica to the Savica ("small Sava"). The Savica flows through Lake Bohinj , leaves it as Sava Bohinjka ( Wocheiner Save ) and merges with the Sava Dolinka ( Wurzener Save ) at Radovljica to form the Save .

The Savica was immortalized in the poem "Krst pri Savici" (Eng. "Baptism on the Savica") by the Slovenian national poet France Prešeren (1800–1849).

Archduke Johann of Austria visited the Savica waterfall in 1807. A memorial commemorates his visit.
