Saxon Shore is an American post-rock band from Brooklyn , Philadelphia and Washington, DC, and was formed in 2001.

history

The band was formed in the winter of 2001 by guitarist and pianist Matthew Doty and drummer Joshua Tillman. A short time later, Joshua's brother Zach Tillman joined the band as bassist, before the group recorded their debut album Be a Bright Blue , which was released in 2001 on the band's own label Broken Factory Records. After the group received a contract with Burn Toast Vinyl , a US tour followed, as well as the second album Four Months of Darkness , which was released in 2004. Then both Tillman brothers left the band. Oliver Chapoy joined the band as guitarist, previously with Shai Hulud and as keyboardist Matthew Stone. In the fall of 2004, they began writing new material, which was released in the spring of 2005 as the EP Luck Will Not Save Us from a Jackpot of Nothing . While they continued to write on new material afterwards, bassist Will Stichter joined them, who was joined by drummer Stephen Roessner in January 2005 after a US tour. In the same year followed the next album The Exquisite Death of Saxon Shore , which was followed by It Doesn't Matter in 2009 .

style

According to Allmusic's Jon O'Brien, the band play instrumental post-rock, comparable to the music of Mogwai and Explosions in the Sky . Allmusic's Ned Raggett compared the music on The Exquisite Death of Saxon Shore to the works of The Flaming Lips , M83 and Mogwai.
