Surroundings
The Logan Burn runs along the northwest flank . Between Scald Law and Carnethy Hill this is dammed up to the Loganlea Reservoir . The reservoir, dammed up in 1851, as well as the downstream Glencorse Reservoir , served as the drinking water supply for Edinburgh . The A702 trunk road (Edinburgh - St John's Town of Dalry ) runs along the south-west flank .
Traces of earlier settlement can be found on the slopes of Scald Law. Remnants of buildings can be found in various places, which are likely to be farms or shepherds' houses. Furthermore, along the path between East Kip and Scald Law, on the slopes of South Black Hill, there was probably once a wayside cross. The 90 m × 85 m foundation was removed by a local farmer in the 19th century.
