The Scapanea frontalis is the only dragonfly species of the genus Scapanea from the subfamily Trithemistinae . Their distribution area are the islands of the Antilles .
Construction of the Imago
The relatively large animals reach a length of 40 to 47 millimeters. The abdomen, which widens strongly between the seventh and ninth segments, is striking . The pterothorax , the part of the chest ( thorax ) to which the wings attach, is brown with yellowish spots. With age, a dust-like layer forms over the pterothorax and the last abdominal segments in males. The wings are mostly transparent. The last Antenodalader in the front wing is incomplete, so it does not extend from the Costalader to the Radiusader .
Habitat
Scapanea frontalis lives along mountain rivers and prefers shady regions.
