Scapania aspera is a liverwort species of the order Lophoziales .
features
The plants form stately, brown-green lawns. The leaves are divided up to half. The lobes are of unequal size and serrated. The upper lobes are rounded and oval and reach far over the trunk. The lower lobes are one third larger than the upper lobes and obovate. In the middle of the leaf, the cells are 12 to 18 × 25 micrometers in size, and their corners are thickened. The cuticle is densely covered with water-white papillae. Each cell has two to eight oil bodies . Brood bodies are formed.
The species is difficult to distinguish from Scapania aequiloba .
Distribution and locations
The species has an alpine distribution and occurs in Europe and Turkey. It grows on calcareous rocks and on calcareous soil. In Germany it is common in the Limestone Alps, in the other Limestone Mountains it occurs sporadically.
