Scapania aequiloba is a liverwort species of the order Lophoziales .

features

The plants form green to brown-green lawns. The leaves are divided up to half into leaf lobes of almost the same size. They are pointed and bulky from the trunk. The upper lobes are oval, toothed or with entire margins and extend over the trunk. The lower lobes are serrated away. One or two rows of cells on the leaf margin have strongly thickened cell walls. In the middle of the leaf, the cells are 14 to 15 × 18 to 20 micrometers in size. The cuticle is densely covered with water-white papillae. The oil bodies are large. There are brood bodies .

The species is difficult to distinguish from Scapania aspera .

Distribution and locations

The species has an alpine distribution and occurs in Europe and Turkey. It grows on calcareous rocks and on calcareous soil. In Germany it is common in the Limestone Alps, in the other Limestone Mountains it occurs sporadically.
