Sceptic is a Polish technical death metal band from Krakow , which was founded in 1994 under the name Tormentor .

history

The band was founded in 1994 by Maciej Zięba (drums), Dariusz "Yanuary" Styczeń (electric guitar) and Jacek Hiro (electric guitar) under the name Tormentor. The missing singer was found with Arek Stawiarski the following year and the name was changed to Skeptic. In addition, Jacek Mrożek replaced the guitarist Dariusz Styczeń. In 1996 they recorded their first demo called Demo 96 . The next demo followed with Beyond Reality in 1997 after bassist Paweł Kolasa ( Athropia Red Sun ) joined the band. In 1998 the line-up changed again significantly. It now consisted of Jacek Hiro (electric guitar), Kuba Kogut (drums), Marcin Urbaś (vocals) and Paweł Kolasa (electric bass). Together they took the demo Promo 98 and resulted in a contract with Massive Management .

In January 1999 the band recorded their debut album Blind Existence , on which the new, second guitarist Czesiek Semla could be heard. Some concerts followed like the Thrash'em All Festival '99 and the Mystic Festival '99 . The album was only released in November 1999 through Mystic Production . The band increased their popularity on the one hand by the release of the album, on the other hand by the fact that Marcin Urbaś was a very successful sprinter. He holds the Polish record in the 200-meter run.

In February 2000 the line-up changed again. Drummer Maciej Zięba returned to the band, Marcin Urbaś left the band and was replaced by Michał Senajko. Sceptic wrote new material and performed at various concerts such as the Thrash'em All Festival 2000 . On September 15th they entered the Selani studio to record their second album called Lost Identity . It was produced by Szymon Czech . The album contained the song Arctic Crypt , which originally came from the band Nocturnus . A music video for the song Pathetic Being was also produced. After that, the name of the album was changed to Pathetic Being . The cover was designed by Jacek Wiśniewski ( Vader , Decapitated , Dies Irae , Hades ). After the recordings Michał Senajko left the band and was replaced by Michał Skotniczny ( Crionics ).

In January 2001 the band signed a contract with Empire Records and released the album Pathetic Being that same year . In the same year, the live album Lost Live Identity was released via Mystic Production.

In 2003 and 2005 two more albums were released with Unbeliever's Script ( Candlelight Records ) and Internal Complexity (Mystic Production).

style

The band plays a variant of Technical Death Metal that is comparable to the works of the progressive death metal band Cynic . The singing is reminiscent of that of Kelly Shaefer ( atheist ).
