Dies Irae is a Polish death metal band from Olsztyn that was formed in 1992. Many band members were or are members of different bands such as Nyia , Vader , UnSun , Prophecy , Third Degree , Christ Agony , Devilyn or Skeptic .
history
The band was founded in 1992 by Jaroslaw “China” Łabieniec (electric guitar), Maurycy “Mauser” Stefanowicz (electric guitar), Piotr “Czarny” Bartczak (electric bass) and Maciej “Gilan” Liszewski (drums). In 1994 the band recorded their first demo called Fear of God . The demo was to be released again two years later via Serenades Records . It featured typical pieces from Death Metal, as well as various guitar variations as an introduction. In 1997 Stefanowicz joined the band Vader and Dies Irae briefly broke up. Four years later Stefanowicz signed a contract with Massive Management , with which other bands such as Vader, Skeptic and Decapitated were already under contract. Stefanowicz, separated from Vader again, was looking for members for his band again. With the help of Krzysztof "Doc" Raczkowski, Marcin "Novy" Nowak and Jacek Hiro, he prepared the first album.
On June 5, 2000, Dies Irae entered the Selani studio and recorded their debut album called Immolated . The album was produced by Szymon Czech . The cover and packaging were designed by Jacek Wisniewski , who had already designed the covers for the albums Kingdom , Black to the Blind and Live In Japan by Vader. Immolated was mastered in Studio 333 by Bartłomiej Kuźniak , who had also worked for Vader. All text was written by Łukasz Szurmiński .
An Immolated promo CD has been sent to various labels in Europe and the US . This Irae achieved thereby a contract with Metal Blade Records . The label represented the band worldwide, except in Poland and Japan . In Poland they were managed by Metal Mind Productions , in Japan by AvalonRecords / Marquee Inc. Both labels also manage Vader. The debut album was released in November 2000 and a music video was also recorded for the song Lion of Knowledge . Dies Irae were preparing for a European tour with Nile in January 2001 .
In April and May 2002 the band entered the Hertz Recording Studio to record their second studio album, The Sin War . The release date has been moved to September due to technical problems in the mastering process. The following autumn tour of the band had to be postponed, as the members were also playing at Vader in some cases and concerts with this band were also pending.
In July 2003, Dies Irae performed for the first time. During the Empire Invasion Tour 2004 , the band played alongside other bands such as Hate , Lost Soul and Esqarial . The contract with Metal Blade was terminated after the band signed a new contract with Metal Mind Productions. The third and so far last album Sculpture of Stone was recorded again in the Hertz studio. The album was released in Poland on May 19, 2004. Appearances with Trauma , Skeptic and Shadows Land followed . Decapitated's Witold "Vitek" Kiełtyka replaced Raczkowski with a hand injury. The album was released in Japan, the rest of Europe and the USA in the fall of 2004. In early 2005 the band held a concert to film recordings for an upcoming DVD. In February the band played a few concerts with Decapitated, Hate and Crionics during The Ultimate Domination Tour 2005 .
The band released a DVD / CD in 2008 called The Art of an Endless Creation , which included live recordings, the most successful album Sculpture of Stone and bootleg recordings. The publication was in part a dedication to drummer Doc, who suddenly passed away in 2005.
All members are currently playing in other bands. Novy is a member of the band Virgin Snatch , Mauser plays with UnSun and Hiro plays with Skeptic.
style
The band plays typical death metal. The works have slow, groove and fast passages that alternate with one another. The singing technique is always kept guttural .
