Devilyn is a Polish death metal band from Tarnów , which was founded in 1992 under the name Cerebral Concussion .

Band history

The band was founded in 1992 by guitarist Łukasz "Bony" Luboń and bassist and singer Marcin "Novy" Nowak. In 1993 and 1994 there was a permanent line-up with the addition of the guitarist Piotr Piekarz and the drummer Jakub aka "Kuba". In addition, a name was found for the band with Cerebral Concussion. In this line-up, the group recorded their first demo with The Rule . In April 1996, the band began recording their first album. Towards the end of the year, the group reached a contract with Listenable Records and then changed their name to Devilyn. The debut album Anger was released on this label . In 1998 the first European tour followed , with the band playing together with Cannibal Corpse and Krabathor . In the same year the band worked on new songs, which were recorded in the fall of that year. These recordings were released the following year as the album Reborn in Pain . Due to the lack of success and personal problems of the band members, the band became quiet within the next two years. In 2000 Piekarz, Jakub and session guitarist Marcin "Boroova" Borowiecki left the band. The drummer Sebastian "Basti" Łuszczek and the guitarist Krystian "Dino" Wojdas then joined the line-up as new members. After the band had signed a contract with Blackend Records , the album Artefact was released in late 2001 . Then other members left the band, so guitarist Luboń was the only remaining founding member. Nowak joined Vader while Wojdas and Łuszczek focused on their other project, Spinal Cord . The new members were bassist Tomasz "Zycklon" Węglewski, drummer Dominik "Domin Dominus" Michałowicz, guitarist Erian and singer Michał "Barney" Bachrij. After a few concerts in 2003 and 2004, the group went to the Hertz Recording Studio in November 2004 to record the album XI . The album was released on Conquer Records in 2005 before being released again in 2007 on Unique Leader Records .

style

On Reborn in Pain , according to Gabriel Gose of metal-observer.com , the band played ordinary death metal, which corresponds to Florida death metal , and drew comparisons to groups like Cannibal Corpse , Deicide and Morbid Angel . As a Polish comparison band, Gose named Vader. The use of double bass and technically demanding riffs is characteristic of the music. The lyrics of the songs are rich in grammatical errors. According to Edouard Vergriete from voicesfromthedarkside.de , the Florida Death Metal influences are still there, but less obvious. Playing the electric guitars sounds like Trey Azagthoth and Erik Rutan are playing together. The album can best be compared to Vaders De Profundis or to the music of Morbid Angel.
