Schäffler Brewery

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Schäffler Bräu is a beer brewery founded in 1868 with an attached inn in Missen, a district of the municipality of Missen-Wilhams . It is already in the fifth and sixth generation of the family and is now run by Hanspeter and Sebastian Graßl.

Companies

The brewery is located in the Allgäu between Immenstadt and Isny in the so-called "Bergstätt area" and is managed in the legal form of a limited partnership . The beer specialties are not only supplied to the brewery inn, but also beverage markets, restaurants and private households within a radius of around 50 km.

The brewery also fills and delivers Libella lemonades in concession.

history

As early as 1468, the inn was first mentioned as a tavern and junker's house. In 1871 the traditional Missen inn with a real baker's, brandy, butcher's and tavern licensing, including a stable, barn, laundry room and slaughterhouse, including the brewery that was added in 1868, became the property of Johann Baptist Schäffler. His son Franz Anton Schäffler took over the brewery in 1900. The increasing beer production made it necessary to build two new storage cellars, as well as the expansion of the brewhouse and cold store.

In 1913 the brewery inn was destroyed by a major fire and was rebuilt in 1914. In 1929 a new water reserve was created in Missen-Wiederhofen. This soft spring water contributes to the quality of the beer specialties.

Due to the loss of the sons Luitpold and Karl in the Second World War, the younger generation was lost to the company. The brewery had to be shut down from 1946 to 1948. In January 1949 the master brewer Hannes Graßl came to Missen and married the granddaughter of Franz Anton Schäffler, Edeltraut Höltl.

Until 1958, Luise Schäffler, daughter of Franz Anton Schäffler, ran the brewery with the support of the Graßl couple. From 1958 to 1984 Hannes and Edeltraut Graßl managed the brewery.

The "Schäffler-Saal" was built on the occasion of the 100 or 500 year anniversary of the brewery and the inn in Missen in 1968. In 1978 the son Hanspeter Graßl joined the company with responsibility. In 1982 the brewhouse was renewed.

In 1984 Hannes Graßl finally handed over the management of the brewery to his son. With the support of his wife Claudia and his brother, master brewer Dieter Graßl, he has been running the company ever since.

Mini brewery

In the guest room of the brewery inn, planned and built by master brewer Dieter Graßl and registered in the Guinness Book of Records in 1996, is the smallest mobile brewery in the world. This mini brewing system on castors is 2.60 meters long and weighs around 500 kilograms. It is put into operation once a month. Then in the tavern the visitor can experience how a brew of beer with a volume of 50 liters is produced in the mini brewery.

Brewery inn

The traditional brewery inn has existed since 1468 and is therefore almost as old as the town of Missen itself. As early as 1482, the count demanded the income of every 13th measure as a tax. The lucrative "tavern" repeatedly caused disputes among the counts of the Missen high valley.
