history

The possessions and settlements of the Counts of Hals were mentioned as early as the 13th century. In 1369 the construction of the castle at Schellenstein began . In addition, Count Leupolt von Hals enfeoffed the brothers Seytz Puchberger zu Engelsberg and Otto Puchberger as well as their cousin Puchberger with the goods to Sieberding and the associated mountain on which they were supposed to build the castle. This comprised 15 rooms, 3 cellars and a horse stable for 9 horses

In 1485 the castle was divided into Nieder- and Oberschöllnstein, but at the beginning of the 16th century Schöllnstein was reunited. In 1550 the castle became the property of the Spritzenstein brothers, after which the owners changed in quick succession. The closed Hofmark Schöllnstein was connected to the property . The building was uninhabited as early as 1698, and during the War of the Austrian Succession it was conquered by the Austrians in 1742 and partially destroyed. After it was largely torn down in 1768, the then owner, Count Raimund Fugger, had the ruins demolished in 1850, leaving only the castle wall.

Since the village had received a new school position with a schoolhouse on October 21, 1866, the Schöllnsteiners tried to set up their own pastoral care center. Mainly through the mediation of Dr. Pichler , who as a former cooperator in Hofkirchen knew Schöllnstein well and in some cases also pastored, the establishment of the Schöllnstein branch was approved in the Bavarian state parliament when discussing the cultural budget. On January 8, 1901, the first branch moved into the newly built branch.
