Franz Seraph Pichler , from 1914 Knight von Pichler , (born October 4, 1852 in Asenham , † October 5, 1927 in Passau ) was a Catholic clergyman and member of the German Reichstag .

Life

Pichler was the son of a carpenter and farmer. He attended the high school and lyceum in Passau and the Gregorian University in Rome , where he studied canon law. He was ordained a priest on June 29, 1876. Then he was chaplain in Pocking , Grainet , Rainding and Hofkirchen . From 1878 to 1880 he was chaplain at Santa Maria dell'Anima in Rome, in 1883 cathedral vicar and librarian and from 1899 cathedral capitular in Passau. In 1910 he became Pope Pius X to the provost appointed.

From 1893 to 1912 he was a member of the German Reichstag for the constituency of Niederbayern 3 ( Passau , Wegscheid , Wolfstein , Grafenau ) and the German Center Party . He was also a member of the Bavarian Chamber of Deputies from 1893 to 1918 .

In recognition of his services, Pichler was in 1914 by King Ludwig III. raised to the personal nobility. On October 5, 1922, Pichler was granted honorary citizenship of the city of Passau on the occasion of his 70th birthday.

Franz Seraph von Pichler died of a weak heart. During his funeral procession on October 8th, high-ranking guests of honor - including Prime Minister Heinrich Held as well as some incumbent ministers and members of the Reichstag and Landtag - paid their last respects. He was buried in the cathedral provost's crypt. He is also the namesake of the Dr.-von-Pichler-Platz in Passau, and the largest bell of the Church of St. Josef in Auerbach , the Christ the King's bell, is also called Pichlerin in his honor .
