The Schön Klinik Neustadt is part of the Schön Klinik clinic group privately owned by the Schön family. As an acute, basic and standard care hospital with around 560 acute and rehabilitation beds, around 1,000 employees at the site treat a total of around 70,000 patients annually. The Schön Klinik Neustadt has been an academic teaching hospital at the University of Lübeck since 2003 .

History and Development

In 1967 the Neustadt Municipal Hospital opened, which later became the Neustadt District Hospital.

At the beginning of the 1990s, the founders of the Schön Klinik began looking for growth options for their company, which was founded in 1985 with the Roseneck Clinic in Bavaria . The choice fell on the small Schleswig-Holstein town of Bad Bramstedt . Schleswig-Holstein was in a difficult financial situation at the beginning of the 1990s and therefore made the takeover of the deficit Neustadt district hospital in the Bay of Lübeck a condition for the project to open a psychosomatic clinic in the north of the republic. In 1993 the Medical-Psychosomatic Clinic in Bad Bramstedt accepted the first patients; at the same time the Neustadt District Hospital became the Neustadt Clinic. On July 1, 1993, this became the responsibility of the Schön family with all 263 employees and 176 beds.

Soon afterwards, the Schön family decided to tear down the too small and unsustainable house on Neustädter Bucht and replace it with a significantly larger building. Part of the growth strategy at the Neustadt Clinic was to add elective surgery departments to the existing standard care areas. The departments for orthopedics and rehabilitation medicine were newly established in Neustadt; Combining the concept of acute medicine and medical rehabilitation under the roof of one clinic was innovative at the time. On May 1, 1995, the new Neustadt Clinic was put into operation directly on the Baltic Sea beach with 365 acute and rehabilitation beds and 423 employees.

The extension and commissioning of another house in 1999 laid the foundation for the integration of further new specialist departments in the following years (1999: hand, breast, plastic and aesthetic surgery; 2000: spinal surgery with a scoliosis center and a center for chest wall deformities). Today the Schön Klinik Neustadt unites a total of nine specialist medical departments under one roof. At the beginning of 2014, a new operating center with 12 operating rooms was put into operation. The Schön Klinik invested around 25 million euros in the new building, which the state of Schleswig-Holstein funded with 10 million euros.

Marcus Baer has been running the clinic since May 2020.

particularities

Day nursery

In December 2013, a model project that was unique in the Ostholstein district was implemented. On the basis of a cooperation agreement between the Schön Klinik Neustadt and the city of Neustadt in Holstein , a day nursery for children between 0 and 3 years of age was put into operation on the clinic premises. The Schön Klinik Neustadt invested almost 900,000 euros in the building, with the state of Schleswig-Holstein participating with project funding of almost 400,000 euros from the "U3 expansion investment program", paid out by the Ostholstein district. The city of Neustadt in Holstein, as the administrator , runs the day nursery. However, both partners share the deficits from ongoing operating costs. Half of the total of 20 care places are reserved for employees of the Schön Klinik Neustadt, even if they do not live in Neustadt in Holstein. The extended care hours are based on the shift working hours of the clinic employees.

Corporate Health Management

In 2009, a company health management system was introduced. In the same year the Schön Klinik Neustadt received the gesa innovation award of the state of Schleswig-Holstein for its BGM program . There are also various partnerships with local companies that offer clinic employees special conditions and discounts.
