Beautiful view
The Schönsicht is a vantage point on the south side of the Selketal above the Alexisbad part of the town of Harzgerode in the Harz in Saxony-Anhalt .
The Schönsicht consists of a refuge hut located at a prominent point on a cliff high above the valley, from which there is a view of the Selketal and parts of Alexisbad. The refuge can be reached from the valley via a serpentine path.
Along with the birch house and the Köthener hut, it is one of the vantage points over the Selke , which were created in connection with the health spa in Alexisbad in the sense of a landscape design in the form of romanticism . It already existed in the 19th century and was a popular destination even then. The beautiful view can already be seen in paintings by the court painter Wilhelm von Kügelgen (1802–1867). Below the Schönsicht, there is a memorial plaque reminding of von Kügelgen.
