Chess the Robot is a French film from 1976. It is based on the story Thinking Robots by George Langelaan . The main role of Penny is played by Claude Jade .

action

The young pianist Penny Vanderwood makes a macabre discovery. The robot's moves (more precisely: androids ) that she observed at the Count of Saint Germain are similar to those of her fiancé Robert, who disappeared years ago. Courageous Penny puts the count, who builds human brains into androids and wants to build a piano android out of her, the trade after a series of gruesome events with her admirer Lewis Armeight.

backgrounds

The film relies on car chases, confusing levels and a romantic love story. The German TV broadcast ran in 1977 in the series Das Gruselkabinett .

A kind of internet cult has grown up around the film in recent years because a lot of people saw it at a young age and were impressed by some scary scenes. Since the film has not been shown on television for a long time and there was no video or DVD release until 2011, there was no way to repeat the experience, which is why people ask about the film in forums and memories are exchanged.

The song composed by Vladimir Cosma and played by Penny is called (in Romanian) “Floarea Soarelui” (in German: sunflower ).

publication

The film was released on DVD on May 16, 2011 by the Pidax film label.
