In the 2005 season of the Swiss Bundesliga in chess , the chess club Birsfelden / Beider Basel and Lugano Bianco Nero fought head-to-head for the title, and despite the defeat in direct comparison, Birsfelden / Beider Basel had a team point advantage in the end . The defending champion Basel BVB was in danger of relegation until the last round, but still managed to stay in league in fifth, while Luzern Musegg had to relegate. Promotion game to the 1st Bundesliga

Equipe Valais qualified for the promotion game as the winner of zone A of the 2nd Bundesliga and Aarau SK came second in zone B of the 2nd Bundesliga behind the non-eligible second team from Nimzowitsch Zurich . The competition took place in Martigny on October 8th . Valais clearly won 6-2 and was promoted to the 1st Bundesliga.
