history

Since 1878, chess has been played in Forchheim organized in the club, first in the bourgeois "Schachklub Forchheim", which can be proven from 1878 to 1906, then with a large gap again from 1946 in the "Chess Department of VfB Forchheim " (1946-1972) and in the "Chess Department of SpVgg Jahn Forchheim " (1972–1977).

A “workers chess club” existed from 1921 to 1933, and finally from 1966 to 1993 a “chess department of the ATSV Forchheim”.

It was not until 1977 that an independent "Schachclub Forchheim" was founded. At that time, 16 chess enthusiasts came together at the “Zur Sonne” inn in Buckenhofen under the founding chairman Helmut Bartsch. It played in the first years in the district league I and came in 1980 for three seasons in the regional league. After two relegations you found yourself in the District League II in 1984.

Only in 1985, when Berthold Bartsch, the son of the founding chairman, took over the office of chairman, did the SC Forchheim improve both quantitatively and qualitatively. Within five years, there are four promotions via the District League I, the Regionalliga Nordost and the Landesliga Nordbayern in the Oberliga Bayern. They stayed there until they were promoted to the 2. Bundesliga East in 1993, in which they have been able to stay almost continuously since then. Twice, in 2002/03 and 2012/13 , SC Forchheim even played in the 1st Bundesliga , but had few chances there.

In 2007 SC Forchheim was relegated to the Oberliga Bayern, but a year later they were promoted to the 2nd Bundesliga. After 23 years at the top, Berthold Bartsch resigned from the board at his own request and was appointed as the only honorary chairman to date. After being promoted to the 1st Bundesliga again and relegated immediately afterwards, the chess club Forchheim played again in the 2nd Bundesliga East. In 2018, the club was relegated to eighth place and retired to the fourth-class Bavarian State League North.

Sporting successes

Up until 1990 he was promoted to the Oberliga Bayern. 1993 succeeded in promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga, where the club was able to hold with the exception of the 2007/2008 season. In the 2002/2003 season Forchheim played in the 1st Bundesliga.

In the 2011/12 season, the club was behind the Erfurt SK runner-up in the 2nd Bundesliga East, but rose to the 1st Bundesliga because the Erfurter SK waived promotion.

The U12 youth team won the German championship in 2007. In addition, the youngsters won the Bavarian U12 Championship in 2009 and the Bavarian U14 Championship in 2009. In 2012 and 2013, the U20 youth team became Bavarian champions. In 2009 the U14 youth became German runner-up champions. In 2013 the U20 youth team reached 3rd place in the German championship.
