The 1991 Senior World Chess Championship was an international chess tournament that was held from November 10th to 24th, 1991 in the Kurhaus in Bad Wörishofen .

The senior world championship in chess was organized by FIDE and organized by Reinhold Hoffmann (picture above), as were other senior tournaments. These were in particular the world championships in 1993 in Bad Wildbad , as well as in 1995 and 1996 in Bad Liebenzell .

Vasily Smyslow won the open world championship . 111 men and women took part, although no separate tournament was held for the women, but the best woman received the title of world champion. This was Éva Karakas from Hungary (33rd place), tied with Irene Winter (center) from Germany (46th place) 6 points each from 11 games. Wolfgang Unzicker (picture below) was the best German.
