The 1997 Senior World Chess Championship was an international chess tournament that was held from November 9th to 23rd, 1997 in the Kurhaus in Bad Wildbad .

The senior world championship in chess was organized by FIDE and, as in 1991 , 1992 , 1993 , 1995 and 1996 by Reinhold Hoffmann.

Jānis Klovāns won the open world championship . 226 men and women took part. Tatyana Satulovskaya won the separate championship for 30 women .

During a festive opening event, Reinhold Hoffmann was honored by the President of the German Chess Federation Egon Ditt with the plate of honor, the highest award of the German Chess Federation.
