Fritz Schaetzler

Fritz Schaetzler (born May 13, 1898 in Nuremberg , † February 3, 1994 in La Habra , California ) was a German singer with a baritone voice .

Life

Fritz Schaetzler, who was born in Nuremberg, lost a leg as a soldier in the Second Battle of Flanders and suffered paralysis in one arm. As a result, he quit his military service and began singing training with Anna Bahr-Mildenburg in Munich in 1919 . In 1920 he made his debut as a concert singer in Nuremberg , in the same year he was engaged at the Munich State Opera , from 1922 to 1947 he worked at the State Opera in Stuttgart . He was also active as a concert and lieder singer. In 1948 Fritz Schaetzler moved to the USA , where he lived as a singing teacher in Hollywood .

Fritz Schaetzler excelled in particular as Papageno in the Magic Flute , as Figaro in Figaro's wedding and as Escamillo in Carmen .
