The Schafalpenköpfe are a small mountain formation consisting of three mountains , the first (2272 m), the second (2302 m) and the third Schafalpenkopf (2320 m). The moderately difficult (C) Mindelheim via ferrata leads over it over a length of 2.4 kilometers .

Origin of name

The naming of the mountains as Die Wilden probably came from the Kleinwalsertal in the north, because from there they did not appear to be agriculturally useful. It was first mentioned in 1783 as Wild Head in Blasius Huebers Vorarlberg map .

As "Sheep Alpine Heads" they get their name from the south side. This refers to the rock heads above the Schäfalpen (pastures for sheep) of the Taufersbergalpe. A Schäfalpenkopf or a Schäfalpenköpfl was first mentioned in 1819 in the first recording sheet at the Bavarian State Office for Surveying and Geoinformation in Munich. In a border description from 1844 it says: via the first Schafalpenkopf, via the second Schafalpenkopf, to the third Schafalpenkopf .

The name Walser Kerle can also be found on an Austrian special map for the Biberkopf area .
