The Schafbrücke is a listed bridge over the Bode in Quedlinburg in Saxony-Anhalt .
location
The bridge registered in the Quedlinburg monument register is located southwest of the Quedlinburg city area in the area between the Brühlpark and the Altenburg . The Quarmbachweg, over which the Selketalstieg is also led, leads over the bridge . It connects the north located Wipertistraße with the south located Neinstedter Feldweg.
Architecture and history
The current bridge was built in 1926. It replaced a previous structure built in 1870, which was destroyed in the 1925 Bode flood. The structure is a single - span steel truss arch . The parapets are made of wrought iron bars . The plastered parapet cheeks are bricked. Concrete reliefs depicting sheep and a shepherd dog are used as decoration .
An inscription on the bridge describes the history of the bridge and reads:
Built in 1926 for the bridge
built in 1870 and
destroyed by floods on December
30, 1925
In 2006 the city administration of Quedlinburg announced that the bridge, which had been open to vehicle traffic up until then, only had a load-bearing capacity of three tons due to its poor state of preservation and that it would be necessary to block it for vehicle traffic. Considerations regarding a new building were rejected as uneconomical. In fact, the bridge was then completely closed, but this was partially lifted after a renewed check. In addition to pedestrians, cars can also cross the bridge in one lane.
