The Schaffrath Group is an owner-managed furniture company that mainly operates in the Rhineland . The group of companies consists of the "Friedhelm Schaffrath GmbH & Co. KG" founded in Rheydt , the "Einrichtungshaus Franz Knuffmann GmbH & Co. KG" originally located in Krefeld and the "Sijben Wooncenter BV" in Roermond .
history
Friedhelm Schaffrath, owner of the family business, opened his first "lamp and light shop" in Rheydt on Hauptstrasse in 1961, in connection with a carpet department and upholstered furniture. Six years later the first residential department store followed on Theodor-Heuss-Straße. It was reopened in the late summer of 2009 after a total renovation with a new building and has a sales area of over 40,000 square meters.
Over the years, Schaffrath built further department stores in Düsseldorf, Krefeld and Heinsberg. In Mönchengladbach-Giesenkirchen, the head office and a high-bay warehouse were also built. In 2003, the Schaffrath Group also took over the traditional Krefeld manufacturer Franz Knuffmann , which will be continued as an independent brand.
Corporate structure
Schaffrath operates ten branches in the kitchen area. Added to this are the sales channels “Casa Natura” (natural living with solid wood furniture), “electric Schaffrath” (branded household appliances) and “Young Store” (young living / take-away furniture).
Overall, the Schaffrath Group has a total sales area of around 170,000 square meters in 25 branches, including ten kitchen markets. Schaffrath has more than 1 million customers annually and generated total sales of around 332 million euros in the 2012 financial year. The company employs over 1400 people.
The group is a member of " Begros ", the largest furniture purchasing association in the world.
Via “Casa Natura” as a brand, Schaffrath sells country house furniture in the style of “natural living” for interiors as well as garden and terrace design. The range is presented in branches right next to the large Mönchengladbach department store and Krefeld department store. The "Young Store" branches in Mönchengladbach, Düsseldorf and Krefeld cover the "Young Living" brand area with design-oriented take-away furniture at relatively low prices.
Foundation, endowment
The "Schaffrath Foundation for Social Affairs" with foundation assets of 500,000 euros pays out up to 50,000 euros annually to social projects in Mönchengladbach, Düsseldorf and Krefeld. At the beginning of 2012, Friedhelm Schaffrath increased the foundation capital of the aid organization, which he founded together with his wife Renate, to 1,000,000 euros.
Awards
In 2009, the company announced that it would build a new building on the site of the former Mönchengladbach police headquarters, thereby doubling its retail space in the city. The new Mönchengladbach department store was named “Germany's most beautiful furniture store 2010” by the furnishing magazine “Möbelkultur”.
