Schafsberg (Limburg an der Lahn)

The Sheep Mountain in Limburger basin with a height of 174 meters, the fourth-largest collection in the field of city Limburg an der Lahn .

The hill has been rebuilt and built on from three sides. The residential development on the south, east and part of the north side belongs to the core city, while part of the Staffel district adjoins the northern extension . The Oberwesterwaldbahn , starting at Limburg (Lahn) train station in the southeast , circles the Schafsberg almost completely.

The Schafsberg is visible from afar through the St. Vincenz Hospital and the affiliated health center. The previous building of the hospital was a facility that was to serve as a children's home. In 1950 the first departments of the hospital on the banks of the Lahn moved there. The old building, which had since been expanded, was torn down as early as 1958. In 1959 the first section of the new building was opened for hospital operations. By 1972, the main building parts of the hospital had been completed, which have since been expanded to include smaller extensions. A citizens' initiative is resisting a further expansion of the development.

On the Schafsberg, below the hospital, there is also the Tilemann School and the municipal main cemetery.

The Schafsberg was an active volcano tens of thousands of years ago . Today it has already gone out, however, and no new activity is possible.

The city's listed Jewish cemetery is located on the northern slope of the Schafsberg . A large part of the buildings at the southern and western foot of the mountain are part of the entire Diezer Strasse / Parkstrasse complex .
