Jewish cemetery (Limburg an der Lahn)
The Jewish cemetery of the Hessian district town Limburg an der Lahn is located on a small, partially wooded property on the northern side of the Schafsberg .
The cemetery was established in 1880, at which time around 200 Jews lived in the city. It replaced the "Judenschiede" in Schlenkert , which has probably existed since the Middle Ages . Some of the tombstones were moved from there to the new cemetery , so that the oldest date from around 1840. The gravestone of Adolph Sternberg , Leo Sternberg's father and well-known author of homeland books, is worth mentioning .
In the cemetery there is a memorial stele for the Jews of the city who were murdered during the Third Reich . The entire cemetery complex , including the tombs, is under monument protection “for historical reasons” .
