description

Schaller's Growling Gurami is a maximum of 6 cm long and is similar to the Growling Gurami ( Trichopsis vittata ). However, his head is not as pointed, and the head and neck profile is not so strongly indented like a saddle. The caudal fin is lanceolate, the posterior rays of the anal fin are drawn out, but do not extend to the middle of the caudal fin. The body is brownish. On the sides of the body the animals show two chestnut brown stripes. The upper one runs from the upper edge of the eye to the caudal fin base, the lower, thicker one from the mouth to the caudal fin base. Dorsal, caudal and anal fins have red edges and numerous small blue dots.

Like many labyrinth fish, Schaller's Growling Gurami builds a foam nest for reproduction . It is only small and is supported by dense aquatic plants deep below the surface of the water.
