The snarling Guramis of the genus Trichopsis (= "Trichopus-like", Trichopus = syn. Of Trichogaster ) are relatively small fish from the subordination of the labyrinth fish (Anabantoidei) within the perch relatives (Percomorphaceae). Their distribution area is in densely overgrown fresh waters and peat swamps of Southeast Asia.

features

Growling guramis resemble fighting fish in their outer shape , grow to 5 to 8 cm long and have a rather squat body, a pointed-mouthed head, a short flag-like dorsal fin, a long anal fin and a rounded caudal fin. The pelvic fins are long and thread-shaped, but not as long as those of the threadfish . They are of a brownish or beige basic color, show a few dark brown longitudinal stripes, a more or less intense pattern with bright light blue dots and red fin edges. Males make growling noises when they impress and during their comment fights.

species

Currently, three morphologically distinguishable species are counted among the Growling Guramis.

Other cryptic species are likely to exist .
