The Schapschal-comb ( Russian хребет Шапшальский or short Schapschal Шапшал) is a mountain range along the border of the Russian republics of Altai and Tuva in the northeastern Altai Mountains .
The Schapschal ridge forms the watershed between Tschulyschman (in the catchment area of the Ob ) and Alasch and Chemtschik (in the catchment area of the Yenisei ). The mountain range has a length of about 130 km. The maximum altitude is 3507 m . The mountains consist mainly of crystalline mica slate . The southern part is strongly structured and has an alpine character. The mountain range is only slightly glaciated . Mountain tundra is predominant. There are larch forests in some river valleys .
