history

Beginnings

The Schauinsland was initially a long-distance express train (F-Zug) that ran from the 1952 winter timetable under the train numbers F45 / 46 and only ran the (old) 2nd class , and only the (new) 1st class after the class reform of 1956 . He drove in the outskirts of the day, from Frankfurt to Basel in the morning and back in the evening. Diesel multiple units of the VT 08 5 series were initially used for this purpose . In parts of the northern section of its route, the train ran together with the Münchner Kindl F-Zug . In 1956, the train reached 94.3 km / h, a speed that was remarkable for the time .

Route extension

From the summer of 1961 the train ran (initially only in a southerly direction) to Zurich, where there was a connection to the TEE Ticino to Milan , which was also introduced at that time . From 1963, car trains were used in place of the multiple units at the Schauinsland .

The End

In 1964 the Schauinsland was given up as an F-train and converted into a two-class express train (D 45/46) while retaining the train numbers . At the same time he lost touch with the TEE Ticino and his name. The connection between Frankfurt and Milan, to which the Schauinsland had contributed, was replaced from the summer of 1966 by the continuous Metropolitano between the two cities, also a two-class express train.

Second use of the name

From 1979 the DB used the name Schauinsland a second time. This time it referred to an Intercity that ran between Hamburg and Basel SBB. In 1991 it only ran between Hanover and Basel; in the 1992 timetable there was no train with this name.

In 1993 and 1994 the ICE Schauinsland traveled with an ICE 1 set between Hamburg-Altona or Frankfurt (Main) and Freiburg (Breisgau) . In 1995 the train name changed to an Intercity between Basel SBB and Berlin-Lichtenberg , 1996 and 1997 the train ran between Basel and Dresden . From 1998 to 2001 the Hamburg - Basel route (via Cologne ) was used again .

The train name Schauinsland has not been used since 2002 .
