Schauta-Stoeckel operation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Schauta-Stoeckel operation , also known as Schauta-Operation or Schauta-Amreich-Operation , is a radical vaginal total extirpation of the uterus in cervical cancer .

history

For a long time, cervical cancer was treated with a simple hysterectomy , usually through the vagina , as the route via an abdominal incision was too risky. Karl August Schuchardt performed the first extended vaginal uterus removal in Stettin in 1893 . The operation was only made possible by the development of the Schuchardt incision, in which the lateral vaginal vault was opened up by severing the levator ani muscle . The procedure was further developed in 1901 by the Viennese gynecologist Friedrich Schauta and later by Walter Stoeckel at the Charité in Berlin. However, Isidor Alfred Amreich did not work out the actual surgical anatomy until 1924 in Vienna by showing the individual spaces and thus developed the procedure into an anatomical operation. In direct comparison with the Wertheim-Meigs operation , the procedure was associated with lower mortality , but also less radical, as lymph node groups were not accessible. By reducing the risks associated with an open stomach operation, the importance of the operation in favor of Wertheim's operation decreased.

Today's meaning

Due to the current possibilities of laparoscopy , in particular laparoscopic lymph node removal , the Schauta operation is again becoming more important, as it allows an individualized, risk-adjusted and nerve-friendly procedure.
