Ectomy
The ectomy ( ancient Greek ἐκτομή ektomḗ , "cutting out") or the total extirpation ( Latin ) are medical terms for the operational and complete usually removal of a body or a clearly defined anatomical structure. The term for the special distance is composed of the usually Greek name of the organ or structure and the word -ectomy .
The term must be distinguished from extirpation and resection .
Indications
The main medical indications for an ectomy are tumors . However, acute or chronic inflammation ( appendage , tonsils ) as well as gender reassignment operations or the induction of infertility / castration ( genital organs ) can be indications.
