The Scheffold-Gymnasium Schwäbisch Gmünd is a multi-class all-day school in the open form in Schwäbisch Gmünd - Bettringen . It leads to the general university entrance qualification. The Scheffold-Gymnasium offers a linguistic profile, a scientific profile and a music profile.

history

In February 1966, the Parler High School provided seven additional classrooms in the Staufer School for the 1966–1967 school year. What was intended as a temporary solution led to the construction of a third grammar school in Schwäbisch Gmünd. An extensive hillside area between the Holy Trinity cemetery and the lower bed rings offered favorable spatial conditions with almost unlimited possibilities for expansion. Lord Mayor Hansludwig Scheffold campaigned with great persuasiveness that an expandable school center with a grammar school, secondary school and possibly other types of school (vocational school center) should be built on the extensive pasture areas. A corresponding application by the city administration was unanimously accepted on July 21, 1966. Construction work began in the summer of 1968. After the grammar school was supposed to be named after the painter Jörg Ratgeb , who was born in Gmünd , the death of Hansludwig Scheffold on August 15, 1969 led to a rethink. In order to preserve his memory, on September 18, 1969, the local council decided to rename the new grammar school Scheffold grammar school . On August 13, 1970, Peter Spranger was appointed first headmaster. The grammar school was only ready for occupancy on September 14, 1971. The official inauguration with 533 students then took place on October 1, 1971. In 2011 the Scheffold-Gymnasium got a new cafeteria. To mark the 40th anniversary, the choirs, orchestras and soloists of the grammar school performed the piece "Der Mond" by Carl Orff in the Stadtgarten .

location

The Scheffold-Gymnasium is located on the south-eastern edge of the core town of Schwäbisch Gmünd . It is connected to the public transport network and with the surrounding districts and communities.

The school today

Full day school

In the open all-day school, care is guaranteed from Monday to Thursday between 7.45 a.m. and around 3.35 p.m. The parents are therefore free to take advantage of this offer for up to four days. On these days, a warm lunch is offered in the cafeteria. There are additional working groups for the fifth graders: sport, theater, music and art.

Grade 5

The Scheffold-Gymnasium strives for a smooth transition from elementary school to grammar school. The first week is dedicated to getting to know each other. Godparents, students from higher grades, are the contact persons. The children have a weekly free space lesson with sporting, musical and creative offers. Modules on learning techniques introduce the grammar school's way of working. In order to promote the community, the pupils and their class teachers go to the school camp in the 6th grade.

Music train

All children interested in music can get an additional hour of music lessons from the lower level on. To promote musically gifted students, the school offers the opportunity to make music in various music groups (choirs, orchestras, big bands, wind instruments). The music groups are known for their musical and opera projects and successfully represented the school at the school orchestra and school music days at state level. From grade 8 the music profile begins with music as a four-hour major. The choice of this move is open to all students. In the course level, music can be continued as a core subject and completed with the written and practical Abitur examination.

Foreign languages and profiles

In class 5, all students start with English as their first foreign language. In the 6th grade, French or Latin follow as a second foreign language. In the eighth grade, each student chooses his or her individual learning focus (music profile with music as a four-hour main subject, linguistic profile with three foreign languages or scientific profile with the four-hour main subject “Science and Technology”). For all interested students, Italian is offered as an additional foreign language from grade 9 or Spanish (from grade 8) in a study group. Gifted students can participate in the promotion of gifted students at Gmünder grammar schools in cooperation with the state high school for gifted Schwäbisch Gmünd . Certain additional courses are offered in which the students can deepen in the areas.
