Got glasses is the cashiers' third studio album from 1996.

background

The cashiers processed different genres on “Habe Brille”. In addition to punk rock, for example, there is a techno parody on the album (“Proletentechno”) and a whole big band can be heard in the track “Mit 'nem Zeppelin durch Jenseits” . In terms of lyrics, the band covers the entire spectrum between philosophical chansons, drinking songs and rough songs with sexual references (“I'm a gynecologist because I'm a cunt fan / This job is like winning the lottery”).

As usual, the album contains a few cover versions:

  • "So live your life", German transmission by Charly Niessen of the chanson " Comme d'habitude " (better known as "My Way")
  • "If the water of the Ruhr ...", modification of "If the water in the Rhine were golden wine" ( Willy Schneider )
  • "Roses bloom everywhere" ( Gilbert Bécaud , in the original "L'important c'est la rose")
  • "No money for beer" (Vexation)
  • “Got glasses”, based on an operetta by Jacques Offenbach

In return, some songs on the cashier tribute album “Art” were covered by other bands, including “I kill my neighbor and beat up his corpse” by the Donots and “Menschenkatapult” by Hennes Bender with Heinz-Peter Lengkeit.

reception

"Musically, the cashiers here are undisputedly in top form: from swing to folk music to their familiar primitive punk, everything is there." (Joachim Hiller, Ox-Fanzine # 24)

Indexing request

At the end of 1996, the youth welfare office in Leipzig submitted an application for indexing to the federal inspection agency for writings harmful to minors . According to the applicant, the album contributes to the “ethical disorientation” of young people. Ultimately, the application was rejected because the band was even able to make the decision-making body laugh during the corresponding negotiation and thus convince them of the satirical nature of the lyrics. The band was also able to present exonerating reports from the Germanist Thomas Hecken and the chief dramaturge of the Bochumer Schauspielhaus for the negotiation.
