Sheikdom Aqrabi
The Sheikdom Aqrabi ( Arabic مشيخة العقربي, DMG Mašyaḫat al-ʿAqrabī ) was a state within the South Arab Federation after briefly belonging to the Federation of the United Arab Emirates of the South . The area is now part of the Republic of Yemen .
Originally the area was part of the Sultanate of Lahij , but separated from it in the 18th century. It was one of the nine cantons (Sultanate of Lahij, Emirate of Dhala , Sheikdom Alawi , Lower Aulaqi Sultanate , Sultanate Fadli , Hauschabi , Lower Yafi Sultanate ) that signed the Protection Treaty with the United Kingdom in the late 19th century . Its capital was Bir Ahmad and it was between Lahij and the state of Aden . His last sheikh was Mahmud ibn Muhammad al-Aqrabi. This was ousted and his sheikdom was incorporated into the People's Democratic Republic of Yemen in 1967 .
