The Schinkelkirche St. Nicolai is the Protestant church in Frauenwald .

history

As early as 1218, a Premonstratensian monastery was built in Frauenwald from the Veßra monastery . The first chapel was built by Count Poppo XIII. Donated by Henneberg . The monastery stood on the area of ​​today's church. The nuns left Frauenwald before the 16th century.

In 1815 Frauenwald came to the Prussian province of Saxony , whereby the Prussian builder Karl Friedrich Schinkel contributed the plans for the church built in 1831. They are based on Schinkel's normal church . In 1910/11 it was extended by a bell tower with a tail dome, which was covered with copper in 1927. The tower was badly damaged during World War II. In 1955, three steel bells from the Schilling company from Apolda were hung in the bell tower. In the 1950s, a leisure home was built in an outbuilding next to the rectory. Allzunah also belongs to the evangelical community of Frauenwald .

The organ was built in 1888 by the organ builder Th. Kühne. The instrument has 15 stops on two manuals and a pedal. The playing and stop actions are mechanical.

Until January 1st, 2009 the congregation belonged to the Evangelical Church of the ecclesiastical province of Saxony .
