history
On August 1, 1854, opened the Leipzig merchant Hermann Schirmer, a grocery store , which was later expanded into a coffee roasting. After the Second World War, branches were opened in Bamberg and Bochum in 1947 and 1948 . The company was taken over by Horst Springer in 1950 .
In 1965 the Dortmund roastery KA-I-RO was taken over; then the company headquarters was relocated near the Dortmund wholesale market . The Leipzig headquarters in the German Democratic Republic was nationalized in 1972; after reunification, reprivatisation took place in 1990.
In 2001 the production facilities in downtown Dortmund became too small. The company built a large roastery in the Brackel district .
In 2004 an integrated management system according to DIN EN ISO 9001, HACCP and the IFS was introduced. Today the certification according to IFS Food v6 exists.
In July 2006 a specialty roastery and café, the beans.coffee-store by Schirmer Kaffee, opened. There coffees are offered that are not used industrially.
According to the company, in 2012 more than 120 employees achieved sales of over 100 million euros and production of around 17,000 t of roasted coffee .

The roasted coffees are offered both as coffee beans and as ground coffee, as well as coffee pods.
