Schisn ( Russian Жизнь , Das Leben ) was a Saint Petersburg journal for literature and political science , which appeared three times a month from January 1897 to February 1899 and then monthly until May 1901 in Russian.

Editor-in-chief was initially Sergei Valerijanowitsch Wojeikow. From the end of 1898, the legal Marxist Wladimir Alexandrowitsch Posse actually headed the magazine.

In June 1901 the paper was banned. The editor in charge had been arrested a month earlier. By December 1902, some issues of the magazine appeared as an organ of the Russian social democracy in Geneva and London .

From Chekhov the story appeared in the gorge (russ. В овраге ) and Gorky among other Foma Gordeyev and The Song of the Petrel . The preprint of Gorky's novel Three People , completed in January 1901, could not be completed due to the aforementioned prohibition.
