The Shiveluch ( Russian Шивелуч ) is a stratovolcano on the peninsula of Kamchatka in the Far East of Russia , about 50 km northeast of the village of Klyuchi . It is the northernmost of the active volcanoes on the peninsula.
Volcanic activity
The volcano was formed 60,000 to 70,000 years ago; there are about 60 known eruptions during the Holocene .
On August 15, 1999, another cycle of the Schiwelutsch eruptions began.
On October 28, 2010, an eruption occurred at the same time as an eruption in Klyuchevskaya Sopka, 80 kilometers to the southwest as the crow flies .
On January 25, 2011, the NASA Earth observation satellite Terra observed an eruption in the form of a pyroclastic current about 15 kilometers long .
On December 4, 2017, the volcano erupted and emitted a cloud of ash 10 kilometers high into the atmosphere.
On August 24, 2019, there was an eruption with an approx. 5 km high ash cloud. In October 2019, a 10 km high ash cloud was sighted during an eruption.
