Butcher of Mons

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Butcher of Mons is a name coined by the media for a Belgian serial killer who has remained anonymous to this day and who committed five murders between January 1996 and July 1997 in or in the immediate vicinity of the city of Mons . What is decisive for the name is that the bodies were supposedly dismembered with great accuracy. They were then placed in plastic bags “clearly visible at the roadside or on a canal embankment”.

In February 2007, at the instigation of US authorities, Smail Tulja was arrested in Montenegro. He is suspected of having committed the murders in Belgium and a similar murder of his wife in New York in 1990 . Two murders are also said to have been committed in Albania , which he is also charged with. In February 2009, the suspect was charged with murdering his wife (according to another source, his partner), in which he participated via teletransmission, as Montenegro did not extradite him as a national citizen . The suspect was sentenced in July 2010 by a Montenegrin court to twelve years in prison for the murder of the American woman Mary Beal. In 2012, the Montenegrin media reported that Tulja died in prison in February 2012.
