Schladminger-Tauern-Höhenweg

The Schladminger-Tauern- Höhenweg is a long-distance hiking trail that leads from Rohrmoos' local mountain Hochwurzen to Schladming's local mountain Planai . The path is also part of the Central Alpine Trail 02 . With a length of over 70 km, it is divided into seven stages. There is also a shorter version of 45 km, which is divided into five stages. The long-distance hiking trail is located south of the Dachstein massif and runs along the Schladminger Tauern, which are part of the lower Tauern. The Schladminger Tauern is one of the most water-rich areas in the Alps.

Stages - short variant

Stage - 1

Starting point: Hochwurzen , 1850 m

End point: Ignaz-Mattis-Hütte , 1986 m or Giglachseehütte , 1956 m

Distance: 11.3 km Duration: 6 hours

The starting point of the first stage is the Hochwurzen summit lift in Rohrmoos. From the Hochwurzenhütte the path runs over the "Kleine Wurzen" and the "Hüttecksattel". Then it goes to the "Latterfußsattel" from where the Guschen mountain (1982 m) can be reached. On hiking trail no. 773 you pass the Hochfeldmandl, the Klammsee and the Brettersee until you finally reach the Giglach lakes .

Stage - 2

Starting point: Ignaz Mattis Hut, 1986 m or Giglachseehütte, 1956 m

End point: Keinsprechthütte , 1972 m

Distance: 5.9 km Duration: 4 hours

The second stage first leads from the Giglachseen to the summit of the Rotmandelspitze (2453 m). On the descent, you hike through the Kruckeckscharte into the large Neualmkar .

Stage - 3

Starting point: Keinsprechthütte , 1972 m

End point: Gollinghütte , 1651 m

Distance: 9.1 km Duration: 6 hours

At the beginning of the third stage you climb to the Trockenbrotscharte (2237 m). Then there is a short descent to the Landawirseehütte before climbing back up to the Gollingscharte (2326 m). Here there is the possibility for hikers in good physical condition to make a detour to the Hochgolling (2862 m). The additional route extends the duration of the stage by approx. 3 hours, resulting in a total duration of over 9 hours. From the Gollingscharte, the descent into the Gollingwinkel begins at the foot of the Golling north face and ends at the Gollinghütte .

Stage - 4

Starting point: Gollinghütte, 1651 m

End point: Preintalerhütte / Waldhornalm, 1656 m

Distance: 7.7 km Duration: 6 hours

The fourth stage initially leads steeply uphill over several serpentines to the Greifenberg (2618 m). On the descent you walk through one of the most water-rich areas in the entire Alps, the Klafferkessel . From the Klafferscharte the path runs through the Lämmerkare to the Preintalerhütte or Waldhornalm .

Stage - 5

Starting point: Preintalerhütte / Waldhornalm, 1656 m

End point: Planai mountain station gondola, 1828 m

Distance: 11.8 km Duration: 6–7 hours

The last stage leads past the Hochwildstelle (2747 m) to the Neualm. From here you follow path no. 781 towards Planai . At the Kaltenbach crossroads (2040 m) there is another opportunity for conditioned hikers to take a detour to the Höchstein (2543 m). The additional route increases the total duration of the stage by around 2.5 hours. The path then leads past the peaks of Ulmspitze , Hasenkarspitze , Sonntagerhöhe and Krahbergzinken until you finally reach Schladming's local mountain, Planai.
