The Preintalerhütte is a refuge of the Alpine Society Preintaler (AGP) in the Schladminger Tauern in Styria in Austria .

history

Hans Wödl and the Preintaler Alpine Society discovered the untouched area of the Schladminger Tauern at the end of the 19th century. They decided to develop the idyllic area and built the Preintalerhütte in 1891.

In 1921 the first extension took place, bedrooms and a kitchen were built. In 1928 a water pipe was laid and in 1955 more bedrooms were added. Sanitary facilities were built in 1957 and the first material ropeway was built in 1962. In 1976, the largest renovation work began, in which everything except the kitchen was rebuilt. In 1977 provisional operations were resumed and a sewage treatment plant was built. In 1981 the renovation was completed with the construction of the sanitary wing. In 1997 the sewage treatment plant was renewed.

During those hundred years the hut was run by nine different tenants. The last tenants, Franz and Vroni Höflehner, looked after the Preintalerhütte for 40 years. The current tenants (since 2011) are Wolfgang and Rita Höflehner.

Ascent

From Schladming you drive 12 km in the direction of Rohrmoos-Untertal , where you park your car at the parking lot at the Gasthof zum Riesachfall . The first section can be covered either on the forest road or along the Riesach Falls. The path along the waterfalls was expanded in July 2005 to make the falls, which are well worth seeing, even more accessible. After the waterfalls, the path leads back to the forest road, which you follow along the Ries axis, past some alpine pastures, until just before the hut. The last three quarters of an hour and 250 meters in altitude, a hiking trail leads through the forest up to the hut. In total, the ascent from the parking lot to the hut takes two and a half to three hours.

Tours

The Schladminger Tauern area is best known for its abundance of water and lakes.

  • An excursion destination is the lake landscape of the Klafferkessel . It's about three hours from the Preintalerhütte to the boiler. There you can either go a round along the lakes and back to the Preintalerhütte or over the Greifenberg to the Gollinghütte (approx. 6 hours walking time).
  • Another hiking destination is the Hochwildstelle , the highest mountain that belongs to Styria alone.
  • You can then continue over the Neualmscharte to the Hans-Wödl-Hütte (approx. 7 hours walk).
  • The Waldhorn , the Höchstein , Kieseck and the Planai Höhenweg are also destinations that can be reached from the Preintalerhütte.
  • The two Sonntagskarseen offer a leisurely hiking tour , as you have to expect about an hour to walk for the first and another half an hour for the second.
  • The hut is also an important base on the Central Alpine Trail , a long-distance hiking trail from Hainburg an der Donau to Feldkirch .
