Swell:

The Schleswig – Klosterkruger Railway (SKE) is a former railway line in Schleswig-Holstein . It was the first rail connection between the city of Schleswig and the regional rail network.

history

The normal-gauge line was opened by the company of the same name on June 1, 1858 and began in the Klosterkrug-Schleswig station of the branch line Oster-Ohrstedt-Klosterkrug-Rendsburg, which was opened in 1854 by the Flensburg-Husum-Tönninger Railway (FHTE) and its main line was built . It led in a north-easterly direction from today's Schleswig train station to the then Schleswig-Friedrichsberg train station and on to the Schlei , which it followed to the old town of Schleswig. In total, the route was almost five kilometers long.

The builder was the English railway entrepreneur Sir Samuel Morton Peto , whose FHTE led the operation until January 31, 1866. On February 13, 1869, the SKE was part of the new Schleswig Railway Company. This converted the Husum – Orstedt – Rendsburg line in the Klosterkrug – Rendsburg section to the current route of the main Flensburg – Rendsburg line , ie closer to the city of Schleswig. Today's train station was opened there on December 29, 1869.

The original route from Ohrstedt to the south of Klosterkrug was then dismantled. The remaining part was integrated into the "Schleibahn" of the Schleswig Railway Company, which was opened for freight traffic on November 15, 1880 and which began transporting passengers on May 15, 1881.

In 1885 the three kilometer long “Schleibahn” with the entire Schleswig Railway became the property of the Prussian State Railways . The timetable from May 1, 1897 showed five pairs of trains daily, which ran between Schleswig-Friedrichsberg and Schleswig Altstadt.

The line remained in the ownership of the respective state railway until it was closed on December 1, 1992 and was operated by the Schleswig District Railway until October 2, 1987 , because it represented the connection between their eastern and western subnetworks.

Resources

The operation was carried out with vehicles, especially locomotives of the parent company (marked with SE in the table), which were temporarily stationed here and serviced in their workshop; In Klosterkrug there was only a single locomotive shed available, in which operating materials were stored and simple workshop work was carried out.

From 1896, corresponding facilities were available in Schleswig-Altstadt.
