The debut album of the German rock band Haudegen is simple and gripping . The double album was released by Warner Music in 2011 and continues the musical style change of the former rappers Hagen Stoll and Sven Gillert to rock . The album was awarded gold.

History of origin

After Haudegen released a first EP of the same name in October 2010 , the Berlin duo announced a "whole" album for 2011.

On May 20, 2011, the pre-release Ein Mann ein Wort was released . A week later Haudegen released her debut album Schlicht & Grabend as a double album with a total of 20 songs. In addition to various download options for buyers, it was also released classically on CD and vinyl .

The music used on the album was partly written by Stoll and Gillert, the lyrics completely. Among the musical co-authors is the bassist of the band Münchener Freiheit, Michael Kunzi . The album was produced by the production team Tuneverse , which also includes Kunzi. Some of the recordings were made with the participation of the Babelsberg Film Orchestra .

The album cover shows the two musicians in working clothes sitting in an old Berlin pub, and in the rest of the booklet, which is designed in black and white, the lyrics have been supplemented with close-ups of tattoos . The photos used were created by Erik Weiss .

Music style and lyrics

As the name of the double album suggests, it consists of two sound carriers: Plain and Moving . Both are clearly different musically. While Schlicht contains louder, rockier songs, Grabbing consists of calm jazzy ballads. Thus, the first part of the album is still similar to Haudegen's self-titled predecessor EP, although its sometimes hardness is no longer achieved. The second part was recorded acoustically for the most part. Various percussion and keyboard instruments were used.

In terms of content, the songs deal with problems in the social environment of the two musicians and try to give their listeners hope. Honest work, camaraderie and love are recurring themes.

Reviews

The radioeins -Soundcheck presenter Andreas Müller and Kai Müller from the Tagesspiegel divided in their meeting the double album in a noisy hard "rock CD" and a quieter "Songwriter CD". They judged the first disc to be rather unsuccessful, both musically and lyrically: “Pseudo-craftsmen and workers aesthetics”. Only the last piece, marked in red, is a highlight, a "comprehensible melody". With the second disc, on the other hand, a “surprise” succeeded: the contradiction between “hard street voices” and “pliable verses” creates “musical friction”, as with one way or another . A lot can be interpreted politically in the title Germany a winter fairy tale . Your final rating: "4 x is okay".
