Schloen is a district of the community Schloen-Dratow in the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (Germany).

geography

The place Schloen in the Mecklenburg Lake District is about seven kilometers from Waren (Müritz) . The Ostpeene , which rises just a little south of Schloen - in the north of the Müritz National Park - flows on the south bank of the 300-hectare Torgelower See .

The districts of Neu Schloen, Oberschloen and Schloener Kolonie belonged to Schloen.

history

In the country Slone , as the area was once called, originally Slavs settled . The church was built on the site of the former ramparts at the beginning of the 13th century (the church tower dates from 1765). Schloen first appeared in a document in 1218.

The watermill on the Ostpeene , built in 1837, has since been restored.

The favorable traffic situation of Schloen is the reason for the settlement of some service and commercial enterprises. Contrary to the trend in Mecklenburg, the municipality was able to increase the number of inhabitants by building single and multi-family houses. In addition to agriculture, which traditionally predominates in the region, tourism (farm-hotel) is also developing.

On January 1, 2012, Schloen and the neighboring community of Groß Dratow merged to form Dratow-Schloen, which was renamed Schloen-Dratow two years later.
