The village church in Schloen , a district of Schloen-Dratow in the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , dates back to the 13th century. The Schloen parish belongs to the Neustrelitz Propstei, Mecklenburg parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany .

Building description

The church is a rectangular field stone building with a square west tower only drawn in on the north side and a choir added to the east . The tower base and choir were added in the 14th century, the brick tower structure dates from post-medieval times. In the masonry of the church, various artefacts were built , which probably date back to Slavic times: on the south side an old millstone is set into the church wall, in the east gable a small bowl stone that was probably once used for cultic purposes.

The three-window group on the south side dates from the time the church was built, while all other windows were changed in the 17th and 18th centuries. At that time, the choir gable was also reduced and the sacristy expanded into the crypt of the patronage family (from 1726 by Hahn , from 1785 by Behr-Negendanck ). The nave vault was given a subsequent central support, and in 1765 the tower hood was added.

In 1973 the church was renovated inside. In 1983 the church received two new bells cast in Apolda . A third bell dates from the 19th century.

Furnishing

The interior of the church includes a three-storey altarpiece from the first half of the 18th century, based on Italian models, with barriers, rich acanthus leaves and other carvings as well as a central image based on a painting by Correggio showing the birth of Christ. The motif was often copied around 1800. A copy of the Correggio motif by Friedrich August von Klinkowström from 1806 is e.g. B. in the Marienkirche in Greifswald . The painter of the Schloener copy is so far unknown. The predella of the altar shows Petri fishing, the medallions on the left and right of the main picture show Christ carrying the cross and as the Good Shepherd, the medallion above the central picture shows Christ surrounded by putti (interpreted as a resurrection in Dehio, understood in the church guide as a judge of the world). The altar is crowned by a carved angel, blowing the trumpet and holding a palm branch. The two other figures flanking the upper medallion are probably depictions of the evangelists, which could once have been completed by two more figures on the scrollwork at the upper end of the central picture.

The pulpit with staircase and sound cover , the chairs and the crucifix also date from the 18th century, the baptismal bowl from around 1652.

organ

In 1881, the church received an organ in a neo-Gothic case from Friedrich Friese III , which was rebuilt in 1954 by the Grüneberg workshop and underwent a general overhaul in 2006 by Andreas Arnold . It is an abrasive loading -instrument with mechanical action and five registers on a Manual with attached pedal .

local community

The branch church Klein Plasten has belonged to the Schloen church since ancient times and since 1901 also the then newly built branch church Groß Plasten . All three are now part of the connected parish Schloen-Varchentin, together with the churches in Deven , Groß Dratow and Varchentin . It is part of the Müritz church region in the Neustrelitz provost, Mecklenburg church district of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany .
