Dobrau Castle
The Mining oak wood Castle is a castle in the Upper Silesian village Mining oak wood in the municipality Strzeleczki in Opole .
history
A first palace in the Baroque style was built in 1750 by the royal councilor Count Erdmann Karl von Redern . In 1780 the castle became the property of Heinrich Leopold von Seherr-Thoß . Under the Berlin architect Moritz Gottgetreu , the entire complex was rebuilt in the neo-Gothic style between 1856 and 1858 . In the same period, the park was redesigned by the garden architect Eduard Petzold .
Because of the approaching war front , the last owner of the castle, Hermann Graf von Seherr-Thoß , left Dobrau on January 17, 1945. Two days later, Soviet troops occupied the place and Dobrau Castle. As a result, the castle caught fire under previously unexplained circumstances. It burned to the ground completely.
A reconstruction of the castle was not undertaken after the transition of Silesia to Poland. It was not until a private investor from Zabrze and the forestry in Proskau that the first security measures were taken in 2001 to preserve the castle ruins. However, due to a lack of funds, reconstruction could not be carried out. A reconstruction of the palace complex was only planned by another private investor. The castle has been rebuilt since around 2014, and when it is completed it will house a hotel.
