The Dunois Castle ( French Château Dunois ) is located in the center of the French commune of Beaugency in the Loiret department of the Center-Val de Loire region , around 20 kilometers (as the crow flies) west of Orléans . The building was classified as a Monument historique in 1925 .

history

One of the many historical, public and ecclesiastical buildings in Beaugency is the imposing medieval castle consisting of a 36 meter high donjon . Just a short distance from the 11th-century fortress , Jean de Dunois , the former comrade in arms Jeanne d'Arcs and often the Bastard of Orléans ( French Bâtard d'Orléans ), built the castle named after him after he was through his Married Marie d'Harcourt had become lord of Beaugency. He lived in the castle from 1440 to 1457 before making Châteaudun his residence. The castle belonged to the Dunois-Longueville family until 1789, after which it was empty.
