The Falkenberg Castle (Polish: Zamek Niemodlin ) is a castle complex in the Upper Silesian town of Niemodlin (German Falkenberg OS ) in the Powiat Opolski ( Opole district ).

Falkenberg Castle is located on the eastern outskirts of Niemodlin, directly on the regional road Droga krajowa 46 . The castle complex includes the former castle pond and the castle park.

Around 1313, Duke Bolko II von Falkenberg had a stone castle built instead of a wooden fort from the 13th century, which was later converted into a palace. After the death of the Falkenberg Duke Bolko II. In 1460 it came to the Duchy of Opole , with which it remained connected until 1532.

In the following centuries the castle was destroyed several times. It was destroyed by the Hussites in the 15th century, by fire in 1552 and in the Thirty Years War in 1643 . In the 16th and 17th centuries, the palace complex was redesigned in the Renaissance style. The building received its rectangular inner courtyard with its arcades, which still exists today. In the 18th century, the castle was rebuilt in the Baroque style. In the 19th century the cloisters were partially walled up and the castle chapel built.

Until 1945 the castle changed hands several times, including the Hohenzollern , Logau, Pückler and Promnitz families . The last owner of the palace was Count Friedrich Leopold von Praschma .

After the Second World War, several public institutions were housed in the castle, including a high school, a non-commissioned officer school and the state repatriation office. Due to a lack of renovation work, the building gradually degenerated into ruin and could no longer be used in parts. In 1990 the castle was bought by a private investor. In 2006 the Polish director Jan Jakub Kolski shot the film Jasminum in the castle .

In 2015 the castle passed into the hands of a new owner, a company from Łódź . In the course of revitalization work, an imitation of the famous Amber Room was housed in the castle in April 2017 . In September 2017 the palace complex was voted the most popular palace in Poland. The castle is currently being extensively renovated.
