Glaswein Castle is in Glaswein , a district of Großmugl in Lower Austria .

The hunting lodge was built in 1762 by Count Wenzel von Sinzendorf. After the Counts of Sinzendorf , the castle passed to the Counts of Fünfkirchen and in 1831 to the Barons von Bartenstein , who sold it to Baron Max Josef von Vrints- Berberich in 1850 . With Eugenie Comtesse Vrints zu Falkenstein's marriage to Botho Seutter von Loetzen, the castle passed to her husband's family. Used as a hospital during the Second World War and looted and badly damaged by Red Army soldiers in 1945, it took until 1954 to repair the damage. The current owner is Dirk Brandis, who had the hunting lodge restored to the original .

The two-storey, baroque hunting lodge is expanded all around with single-storey side wings that create an inner courtyard . The castle was originally only intended for temporary use, but is still splendidly furnished. The baroque grand staircase with vase attachments in the form of lanterns leads to the large salon , which Johann Franz Greipel furnished with wall paintings (oil paintings on smooth plaster) in 1769 . The ceiling shows Diana with her dog cart and the walls show scenes from country life. There are two more salons on either side , which are also decorated with murals.

The castle is a listed building .
