Oskar Benda , also Oscar Benda (born June 12, 1845 in Böhmisch Brod , † February 6, 1915 in Neuses-Coburg ) was an Austrian theater actor , director and director .

Life

Benda, the son of a kk Austrian senior engineer, joined the kk priv. Austrian Southern Railway in Vienna after graduating from the commercial academy in Prague , but decided in 1863, encouraged by Joseph Lewinsky , to turn to the stage career.

He took lessons from the then heroic father of the Prague State Theater, Josef Fischer, and appeared on the stage for the first time on February 24, 1864 at the State Theater in Brno as "Ferdinand" in Kabale und Liebe . After spending a winter as a volunteer at the court theater in Karlsruhe under Eduard Devrient's direction, he began his first engagement at the Princely Theater in Sondershausen in autumn 1865, was engaged in Linz in 1867, and in Halle in 1869 (he had previously worked as a youth Hero and lover) then into the character compartment.

As a representative of the same he worked first in Aachen and Danzig and in 1875, after a successful guest performance, was committed to the National Theater Berlin. In 1879 he worked at the court theater in Karlsruhe, from 1880 to 1883 in Freiburg, until Otto Devrient appointed him as a director in Oldenburg in 1884 , where Benda stayed for three years before accepting an appointment as artistic director of the Freiburg city theater in 1887.

In 1892, Duke Ernst gave the artist, who already enjoyed an excellent reputation as both actor and director, to Coburg as chief director.In 1893 he was entrusted with the management of the court theater there under the title of theater director, and remained in this position until 1900, in which year he was entrusted with the management of the directorship business. Oskar Benda was also the artistic director of the New Gotha Theater - both theater buildings were built in 1840 for mutual operation depending on the season and stay of the ducal family.

Oskar Benda died on February 6, 1915, 4:15 in the morning.
